Ventus Energy originates, develops, and exits high-quality wind energy projects in New Zealand. We have a proven track record of taking projects from concept to successful transaction — with exits to some of New Zealand’s largest energy companies.
Three development-ready projects are currently available for acquisition.
New Zealand needs 1,100 GWh of new renewable generation annually for the next 30 years. Ventus is helping close that gap — one project at a time.
We are a pure-play project originator. We identify prime sites, secure land agreements, obtain resource consents, and advance projects to finance-ready or transaction-ready stage. We then exit to established energy companies and infrastructure investors with the capital and capability to build.
Our projects have been acquired by major New Zealand energy companies. They are finance-ready, consented, and positioned in high-value grid locations.
Ventus will be the lowest-cost and lowest-carbon electricity producer in New Zealand’s in-deficit power market.
New Zealand is amongst the world’s most suitable locations for wind generation but has one of the lowest penetrations of wind, at less than 10% of capacity.
The upper North Island, which uses 30% of NZ’s electricity and has the highest power prices, is served by only one operational wind farm. Most planned new generation is solar.
Ventus’ wind farm locations and generation profiles will meet demand during daily and seasonal peaks. Wind complements hydropower, which supplies 57% of New Zealand’s electricity.
Wind also has the least embodied carbon of any form of generation besides nuclear and is consistently the most cost-efficient source of power.
By adding competitive, renewable generation when and where it is needed most, Ventus will contribute meaningfully to global environmental goals and help build a brighter future for generations to come.
Ko Aotearoa to tatou whenua tupu. New Zealand is our home. Nothing means more to us than improving it for our children.
Besides accelerating decarbonization and combatting climate change with green energy, Ventus has committed more than $2 million to ecology, community and cultural initiatives in the Waitomo district from our first New Zealand wind farm.
Protecting native avifauna such as Pekapeka tou-roa – the New Zealand long-tailed bat – is a critical responsibility for all of us. That’s why Ventus is funding bat research and supporting initiatives to make New Zealand predator-free.
Ventus acknowledges the interests and aspirations for the future of tangata whenua. We are proud to partner with tangata whenua wherever we work.

Glenn Starr
Founder & Project Originator
Glenn has a track record of originating high-quality energy and transport ventures — and successfully exiting them. In Ireland, he originated and exited wind energy development projects. In New Zealand, he founded Electric Autobus — the country’s first electric bus company — and sold it to its current operator. He then founded Ventus Energy, originating New Zealand’s largest portfolio of wind farm development assets, with a project successfully exited to a major New Zealand energy company. Glenn started his career as a civil engineer at Beca, where he gained deep experience in pipeline pumping systems and wastewater treatment plants.
